SONGWRITER’S MARKET – 2007 (the book)

With all that’s been going on, I forgot to tell you that John Braheny has an article in the new edition of Songwriter’s Market 2007 that just came out.

You’ve seen Writer’s Digest books in the stores … Writer’s Market, Poet’s Market, Novel and Short Stories Writer’s Market, Photographer’s Market, etc., as well as their excellent magazines.

John has written chapters/articles for them before. This new one is called Getting Ready to Face the Industry, including these sub-topics:

• Ethics in the Biz
• Ego
• Dealing with Rejection
• Survival
• Marketing Your Lyrics
• Organize Your Song Shopping
• Setting Up Your Database
• Submission Software Packages

Also, in the back of this book there’s a world of resources including some listed by geographic locations. Very handy!

The Laws of Simplicity

I love this. It’s exactly what I needed to read right now, especially with all the projects we’re working on, plus holiday festivities coming down the road.

Check out excerpts on his site, from John Maeda’s new book,
The Laws of Simplicity.

Law 1: Reduce
Law 2: Organize
Law 3: Time
Law 4: Learn
Law 5: Differences
Law 6: Context
Law 7: Emotion
Law 8: Trust
Law 9: Failure
Law 10: The One
(Simplicity is about subtracting the obvious, and adding the meaningful.)

Google AdSense –

JUST NOTICED THIS…

Paramount Group in Nashville is popping up on my GOOGLE ADSENSE ads here.

Please note that John Braheny and I DEFINITELY, DEFINITELY DO NOT ENDORSE the Paramount Group in Nashville.

I will look into how to edit out such ads from appearing on this blog.

Swapsets – Ladies Headsets

Just saw this and to let you know…

Swapsets, triple-threat fashion accessories that function as headband, headphones and optional headset, are available in various fabrics from wool to cotton to silk.

The Swapsets site lets you mix and match materials so you can create your own look. A selection of optional dangles that resemble earrings add a little flare.

MountainStage.org – West Virginia

As you know, John Braheny and I are on a road trip, to promote his totally updated new 3rd edition of his book, The Craft and Business of Songwriting. (See book pictured below.)

We listen to all kinds of music as we travel, and came across this great radio show on NPR (from West Virginia), played here today in Chattanooga, Tennessee.

I don’t know if Mountain Stage.org is streamed or podcast but do check it out…especially if you’re into indie country/folk, singer/songwriter music, in the style of NPR’s Prairie Home Companion.

Enjoy!
